Rec Barn

Rec Barn is the second of three barn conversions on the same site – a concrete block storage building stripped back to its footprint & rebuilt with green oak framing, hexagonal pillars, & underfloor heating, initially serving as temporary accommodation before becoming a recreational annexe.

Rec Barn is the 2nd barn in a series of three barn conversion projects. This was actually the first barn to be completed & our clients lived here as temporary accommodation whilst their main residence, Barn A 'Church Barn' was completed.

The structure of the existing building, used as a storage area & stabling, consisted of concrete blocks with a corrugated sheet roof & an open front. The majority of the old structure was unsalvageable so we ended up removing all the concrete blocks due to the footing not being viable. After stripping back all that was necessary & clearing the site we were then ready to start work reconstructing.

The completed Rec Barn is a striking yet sympathetic addition to the wider barn conversion project, blending traditional agricultural character with contemporary comfort. Distinctive green oak framing & handcrafted hexagonal oak pillars create an impressive first impression, whilst the light-filled interior has been designed to provide flexible, practical spaces for everyday living. Featuring a spacious games & family room, kitchenette, shower room, sauna & insulated storage, the finished building offers exceptional versatility. Thoughtful craftsmanship, high-quality materials & carefully considered detailing ensure the barn sits naturally within its rural setting, creating a beautiful space that is both functional & full of character.
