Developed in Germany in the early 1990s, the Passivhaus (or Passive House) standard is one of the most rigorous energy-efficiency standards in the world. It focuses on very low heating & cooling demand through considered design, continuous insulation, airtight construction, careful junctions & ventilation with heat recovery.
Passivhaus principles can inform new homes & carefully assessed retrofit projects. Some clients pursue full certification, while others use the principles to set a clear high-performance brief.
Our experience includes the retrofit of a large Victorian home towards the EnerPHit standard. The work included substantial insulation upgrades to walls, floors & roofs; UPVC triple-glazed Passivhaus-certified windows; underfloor heating; & airtightness detailing using specialist tapes & membranes. Mill Bank is Benjamin Henry's first full new-build Passivhaus project.
