Widcombe
Blackdown Hills · Heritage Restoration
Set within the Blackdown Hills, Widcombe Grange is a handsome Arts & Crafts country house dating back to the 1830s.
Once operated as a luxury holiday venue, our clients entrusted Benjamin Henry Ltd with returning the property to its original purpose as an exceptional private family home.
Every aspect of the renovation was approached with respect for the building's heritage, carefully balancing modern performance with the preservation of its original character.

Externally
Restored with respect for the original fabric.
Extensive restoration works included structural repairs, roof & chimney refurbishment, bespoke stonework, traditional galvanised rainwater goods & drainage improvements to safeguard the property for generations to come. Wherever possible, original materials were retained & restored, ensuring every intervention felt sympathetic to the historic fabric of the building.

Internally
Thoughtfully reconfigured for modern family living.
Inside, the home has been thoughtfully reconfigured to better suit modern family living while celebrating its period features. Bespoke joinery, handcrafted timber windows, carefully matched flooring, restored stonework & high-quality finishes sit alongside discreet upgrades to insulation, services & layout.
The result is a home that feels timeless — combining traditional craftsmanship with the comfort, functionality & longevity expected of a luxury renovation.

Bespoke Joinery
38 handcrafted timber windows & doors.
The replacement of all 38 bespoke timber windows was one of the defining elements of the renovation. Individually handcrafted by our master joiner, each window was designed to suit the unique dimensions & character of its opening, faithfully replicating the original period detailing while significantly improving thermal performance & longevity.
Finished with handcrafted Ham stone cills, the new windows sit seamlessly within the historic façade. Two bespoke sets of French doors were also designed & installed, complementing the surrounding joinery while introducing more natural light & strengthening the connection between the home & its gardens.
