Demonstrable heritage experience
Ask for completed projects on historic buildings & the specifics of what was done - not just photographs of finished rooms. Structural work, masonry repairs & joinery are where heritage competence shows.
Our own heritage work includes a Grade II listed renovation & extension at Thurloxton Manor, an 1830s country house at Widcombe, an EnerPHit retrofit at The Rectory & a historic shopfront restoration at The Old Bakery.
In-house capability
Heritage projects rely heavily on joinery. A contractor with its own workshop can make windows, doors, staircases & cabinetry to suit individual openings, control quality directly & adjust when the building demands it.
How they work with the wider team
Good heritage contractors work comfortably alongside architects, structural engineers, heritage consultants & conservation officers, & raise issues found on site early rather than pressing on.
Ask who will actually run the site, & how decisions get made when something unexpected is uncovered.
